How many of us remember the 1995 song SCREAM by Michael & Janet Jackson? The lyrics go like this, Tired of injustice
Tired of the schemes
Lies are disgusted
So what does it mean
Kicking me down
I got to get up
As jacked as it sounds
The whole system sucks, damnit
Continue singing and here's my favorite part, With such confusion don't it make you wanna scream Your bash abusin' victimize within the scheme
You try to cope with every lie they scrutinize
Somebody, please have mercy 'Cause I just can't take it!
I would blast this song in my dorm room, thinking of that paper I had to write or remembering the injustices I saw on the news that would often have me questioning the existence of God. Oh... you know; the "IF" questions. If there is a god then why did those young men shoot and kill students at Columbine High School or the senseless shootings, hate crimes, and trafficking of young people today? God, where are you!?!
I have been guilty of allowing the noises of society to drown out God's Truth and promises in my life. It is so easy to get washed up under all of the pain and chaos this world brings, however, when I find my mind drifting, I am reminded of God's faithful promises. Deuteronomy 3:16 (NIV) says, "Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” In God's infinite wisdom, HE knew before I knew and before you knew that we would need to be encouraged and strengthen in this fallen world. HE tells us why we should not be terrified or afraid of anything or anyone because HE is with us. I've gotten to a place in my life; even when things are not well, I am well because of the one who died for me to BE WELL.
His promises don't stop there. Romans 12:19 (NIV) says, "Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord." Our Heavenly Father is omnipresent Queen. HE sees and hears all things. Even when you're not aware HE is. My prayer for you today is to renew your mind daily in God's sweet precious word. If we bathe ourselves and feed ourselves daily, surely our minds must be cleansed daily. Your mindset matters.
