A History of Doubt Doesn't Make You Incapable of a Faithful Future

Human logic has caused the world to be turned upside down on many historical and present day occasions. We set limits on ourselves and on others all the time. Who would have thought an African American woman by the name of Elizabeth Hobbs Keckley born as a slave in the 1800s would sew for the likes of famous black and white women? The story goes; Mary Todd Lincoln, first lady, took Keckley on as her personal designer—and close personal friend. Keckley designed nearly all of Mary’s gowns during her time in the White House, including the dress she wore at Lincoln’s second inauguration, now on display at the Smithsonian, but I don’t believe that was where Elizabeth’s story began or ended. You see, In 1868, Elizabeth Keckley published Behind the Scenes. The focus is her relationship with Mary Lincoln, but God is not absent in her story. In one section, Keckley writes of her witness to the immense power of God’s word, that even in the midst of Bible scoffers, the word of God brought her immense peace.

Another Brave Queen was Coretta Scott King. I hear so many people; even now refer to her as Dr. King’s wife, however, this Queen was so much more than Dr. King’s wife. She was an author, activist, civil rights leader, mother, chain breaker, prayer warrior, and the spirit of meekness formed into a beautiful woman for women who knew her and those of us who watched her to gleam from. She along with countless other women, spoke out and marched on right alongside their courageous male counterparts. I can imagine the onlookers shouting, “Go Home!” or thinking "She is “crazy!” It is because of these women and so many more that you and I have the opportunity to overcome our doubtful past and embrace our faithful future. Our future becomes faithful when we come into agreement with the Faithful One.

Let me share 2 gems with you on today:

Gem #1: God’s promises are always more credible than human logic. Just because you can't figure God out doesn't mean you have to doubt him. A god we could completely figure out, would not be a god at all.

Isaiah 55:8-9 says, For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.

Gem #2: God accomplishes HIS will however he pleases. This is the sovereignty of God on display. This means he has supreme authority and all things are under His control. He is the director and producer of this amazing movie called Life and HE is the CEO of heaven. Ephesians 1:4-6 tells us, “For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love he predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will— to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves.”

Question? Are there any facts about your life that are way heavier in your mind then what's possible through God?
